Theatre by The Lake.As its name suggests, our theatre is in a beautiful spot alongside Crow Park and Derwentwater. The theatre produces a summer season of 6 plays every year. There are several galleries showing the work of local artists and it is open every day for ticket sales and refreshments. Book ahead as many shows are sold out.

Honister Slate Mine.Take a scenic drive to the end of the Borrowdale valley and then enjoy a journey towards the centre of the earth with a mine tour around this working slate mine. For the adventurous, there is an award winning Via Ferrata.

Wordsworth House & Garden. This house was built in 1770 and was the childhood home of William Wordsworth. There are many authentic items of furniture and period reproductions – the garden is very pretty and there is a nice café and shop. The highlight is the old kitchen, where the chef recreates authentic historic recipes, using the coal range and equipment that they used back in the eighteenth century.

Dove Cottage, Grasmere.Dove Cottage was William Wordsworths home from 1799 to 1808. Here Wordsworth wrote much of his poetry, and his sister Dorothy kept her famous diaries. The cottage is small but beautifully formed and the guides are so full of information, that it is a delight to visit this cottage. There is also a museum with many wonderful portraits of Wordsworth and his contemporaries as well as quality exhibitions normally with a literary connection.
